The Galaxy S, which came in with Android 2.1 Éclair OS, had been recently provided with an update to the Android 2.2 Froyo OS, but clamor was growing for the Gingerbread update. Samsung had promised the Android 2.3 update for Galaxy S users in mid-April and true to its word the company has begun pushing out this update.

Word is that Samsung Galaxy S users on the Optus network in Australia are also receiving this update. The Android 2.3 Gingerbread update can be downloaded via the Samsung KIES app. The details are given below:

* Build number GINGERBREAD.XWJVB
* Firmware Version 2.3.3

Google Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread OS has seemingly been rolling out to a multitude of users across the European terrain. Several users have reported the Android 2.3 update for Galaxy S to be rolling out even as Samsung is due to officially announce its release.

Users can feast on the Galaxy S Android 2.3 update by connecting their Samsung Galaxy S phones to the Samsung Kies software and performing the update. The Galaxy S Android Gingerbread update carries a Baseband version I9000XXJVK and a build number as GINGERBREAD.XWJVB with a build date of April 8.

Numerous users have reported of the update notification being available on their Kies Desktop software for the Galaxy S. Samsung yet again has proven that they have no problems updating their phones, contrary to popular belief. The upgrade to Android 2.3 for the Samsung Galaxy S is now rolling out for certain European users.
